Enderman mob in Minecraft
The Enderman is the tall black mob that wanders the Overworld at night, the Nether and above all the End. It leaves you alone until you look at its head or hit it. Then it screams, teleports next to you and hits hard. It is also the only regular source of Ender Pearls, which you need to reach the End.

Command
/summon minecraft:enderman ~ ~ ~Why an Enderman attacks
An Enderman turns hostile in two cases: you attack it, or you look straight at its upper body from some distance. Glancing at its legs is safe. Once angry, it trembles, makes a loud noise and teleports toward you.
Wearing a carved pumpkin on your head stops your gaze from provoking it. This is the standard trick in the End, where dozens of Endermen stand around the island.
How to fight one safely
- Stand under a low roof. An Enderman is about three blocks tall and cannot follow you into a two-block-high space. Dig in, then hit its legs.
- Use water. Water hurts Endermen, rain included. Standing in water or pouring a water bucket at your feet makes it teleport away.
- Forget the bow. Endermen teleport away from arrows and most other projectiles. Fight in melee.
- Keep an eye on your blocks. Endermen pick up some natural blocks such as grass, dirt, sand, flowers or melons, and drop them somewhere else.
Ender Pearls and the Eye of Ender
An Enderman can drop an Ender Pearl, and Looting raises the number. Throw a pearl to teleport where it lands, at the cost of a little damage. Combined with blaze powder, it becomes an Eye of Ender, which leads you to the stronghold and activates the End portal.
Endermen are by far most common in the End, which makes it the best place to farm pearls once the dragon is beaten. In the Overworld, they are rare but present in almost every biome at night.
Endermen and Endermites
Endermen attack Endermites on sight. Some farms use an Endermite as bait to draw Endermen to a killing spot.
