Ice Spikes biome in Minecraft
Ice Spikes is a frozen variant of Snowy Plains where pillars of packed ice rise from a ground of snow blocks. It is the easiest place to collect packed ice in bulk, the base of the fastest boat roads in the game. There are few other resources and no villages or igloos, but the landscape is unlike any other.

Structures in the Ice Spikes
What you find in Ice Spikes
The surface here is not grass but snow blocks, dusted with snow layers. Spikes of Packed Ice grow out of it, from short stubs to tall needles, and flat patches of packed ice are set into the ground between them. A few spruces can grow too. No village, igloo or outpost generates in this biome, so plan your own shelter.
Mining packed ice
Packed ice only drops itself when you mine it with a Silk Touch tool. Without the enchantment, the block breaks and you get nothing. A pickaxe is the fastest tool for the job. Unlike normal ice, packed ice never melts, even right next to a torch, and it leaves no water behind when broken.
Nine ice blocks craft one packed ice, and nine packed ice craft one Blue Ice. Boats slide very fast on all three, which is why players lay long ice roads, often in the Nether to cross it quickly. Blue ice is the fastest of them.
Surviving in Ice Spikes
As in Snowy Plains, most skeletons that spawn at night are strays, whose arrows slow you down. Keep a shield up and close the distance quickly. Polar bears wander between the spikes and attack if you come near their cubs. White rabbits are the only common animal, so bring food with you. The ground between the spikes is flat, and a quick shelter of snow blocks is enough for a first night.
