Windswept Forest biome in Minecraft

The Windswept Forest is the wooded version of the Windswept Hills: the same steep, rocky terrain, but with a dense cover of spruce and oak trees. It combines a good supply of wood with the emerald ore and infested stone of the windswept biomes, and is the only one of them with an abandoned camp.

Structures in the Windswept Forest

A forest on the cliffs

Where the Windswept Hills have a tree here and there, the Windswept Forest has several per chunk. About two trees in three are spruces, the others oaks, including some large branching oaks. Now and then a fallen trunk lies on the ground. Between the trees, the slopes show grass, bushes, poppies, dandelions and bare stone.

It is a good place to stock up on spruce logs for dark wooden builds, with oak logs on the side. The summits are cool enough for snow, so the higher trees can stand in a white landscape.

Ores under the trees

The stone under the forest holds the same treasures as the other windswept biomes. Emerald ore appears in very small veins, often single blocks, and needs an iron pickaxe. Below Y 63, some stone is infested stone that releases a Silverfish when you mine it. Mine with a sword at hand.

Animals, camp and dangers

Llamas spawn here along with sheep, pigs, chickens and cows, which use their cold variant. The forest is also the only windswept biome that hosts the Abandoned Camp, a tent left behind in the woods, worth a look when you cross the hills.

The dense trees hide the edges of the cliffs, so watch your step and keep a water bucket ready. At night the ground under the trees is pitch dark, so torches along your paths make travel much safer.
