Snowy Taiga biome in Minecraft
The Snowy Taiga is a cold spruce forest buried under snow, with ferns, frozen ponds and the occasional sweet berry bush. It is one of the best snowy biomes to settle in: wood is plentiful, wolves and foxes roam between the trees, and pigs, cows and chickens spawn here in their cold variants.

Structures in the Snowy Taiga
What grows in a Snowy Taiga
Two shapes of spruce share the forest: the classic cone-shaped tree and a taller, thinner one with its leaves bunched near the top. Both give spruce logs, and fallen trunks sometimes lie on the ground. Between them, the snowy grass is covered mostly with ferns, plus large ferns and a few tufts of short grass. Patches of sweet berry bushes are rarer than in a normal taiga but worth finding: Sweet Berries are food you pick without replanting, and the bushes hurt anything that walks through them.
Animals of the snowy forest
Wolves here are the ashen variant, the only one that spawns in this biome. Foxes are white snow foxes. They sleep during the day and love sweet berries, which you can also use to breed them. Pigs, cows and chickens spawn in their cold variants, rabbits have white fur, and sheep complete the list, so food and wool are easy to find.
Structures and tips
Look for an igloo in clearings, trail ruins buried in the ground, and the snowy taiga version of the Abandoned Camp. The forest often borders Snowy Plains or a Frozen River.
- Water freezes in the open: build your farm under a roof or light it up to keep it liquid.
- Tame a few wolves with bones early. They hunt skeletons and keep the nights calmer.
- Bring a shovel: it clears snow layers quickly, and only a shovel makes them drop snowballs.
