Frozen Peaks biome in Minecraft
Frozen Peaks are high mountain tops glazed with packed ice and ice under a layer of snow, smoother than the spiky Jagged Peaks. They are almost empty of life apart from goats. For builders, they are a free source of packed ice. For miners, the stone inside hides emerald ore.

Structures in the Frozen Peaks
Ice on the mountain
The steep faces of Frozen Peaks are covered in packed ice instead of stone, and more packed ice and patches of ice break up the snow block surface. Packed ice stays solid in daylight and next to torches, so the summits never melt. No trees, flowers or grass grow up here. They often sit above Snowy Slopes and can stand right next to Jagged Peaks.
Collecting packed ice
Ice and packed ice only drop themselves when mined with Silk Touch, and a Silk Touch pickaxe is the fastest way to harvest whole ice walls. Use them for ice roads, or craft nine packed ice into one blue ice, the fastest surface for boats. Normal ice is less useful for building: it melts near torches and turns into water when broken over solid ground.
Surviving the peaks
- Goats are the only animals. They ram you off ledges, and when they hit packed ice or stone instead of you they can drop a goat horn.
- Bring food: goats drop nothing when killed, and nothing else spawns here to hunt. You can milk goats with a bucket, though.
- Small lava springs can pour out of snow and packed ice.
- Fire burns out faster than in most biomes, so do not rely on it to clear the area.
- The stone inside holds emerald ore and infested stone, as in the other mountain peaks.
