Ice is frozen water that melts back near bright block light and leaves water when broken; only Silk Touch collects it. Ice and snow cover the cold biomes, from snowy plains to frozen peaks.

It is mined with a pickaxe.

What it does

Ice blocks are slippery: players, mobs and especially boats slide fast on them, which builders use for quick transport. Snow falls in cold biomes and piles up as thin layers, and powder snow forms in snowy slopes and in cauldrons left in the snow.

Most ice needs Silk Touch to be picked up, while snow drops snowballs with a shovel.
