Minecraft structures 22 · Java Edition 26.3
Java Edition has 22 structures: 18 in the Overworld, 3 in the Nether and 1 in the End. They hold most of the best loot in the game and mobs you will not meet anywhere else. This page explains how to find them and which ones to raid first as your gear improves.
Structures by dimension
The Overworld has the widest choice, from small Abandoned Camps to huge Ancient Cities deep underground. The Nether has three: the Nether Fortress, the Bastion Remnant and the Nether Fossil; Ruined Portals appear there too. The End has one, the End City, on the outer islands.
How to find a structure
- Look around. Villages, Pillager Outposts, Desert Pyramids and Ruined Portals stand out from far away. A Spyglass helps from a high point.
- Explorer maps. Cartographer villagers sell maps to villages, Jungle Pyramids, Swamp Huts, Trial Chambers, Ocean Monuments and Woodland Mansions. Shipwrecks and ocean ruins hold the map to Buried Treasure, and the hidden chest of an Abandoned Camp can hold a map to a bigger structure, even an Ancient City.
- Guides. An Eye of Ender flies toward the nearest Stronghold. A Dolphin fed raw fish swims to the nearest shipwreck or ocean ruin.
- Commands. With cheats on,
/locate structuregives the coordinates of the nearest one. Each structure page has the exact command and a seed map.
What to raid first
Early game. A Village gives food, beds and the weaponsmith's chest. Ruined Portals give gold gear and the obsidian to reach the Nether. Shipwrecks lead to Buried Treasure and its Heart of the Sea. Mineshafts and Desert Pyramids are quick wins, as long as you mind the TNT in the pyramid.
Mid game. With iron or diamond gear, take on the Trial Chambers for their vaults and the Mace, then the Nether Fortress for Blaze Rods and Wither Skeleton Skulls. Find a Stronghold before you head for the End.
Late game. The Bastion Remnant guards a Netherite Upgrade template. Ocean Monuments give gold and sponges, Woodland Mansions give a Totem of Undying for every evoker, and Ancient Cities give Swift Sneak. The End City is the last big stop, for Shulker Shells and the Elytra.
Good habits
Write down coordinates, mark your path with torches and bring a way home. Chests do not refill, so the first visit is the one that counts. A vault opens once per player, so friends can each claim their own reward.
