Trail Ruins structure in Minecraft

Trail Ruins are the buried remains of an ancient settlement, hidden under taigas, old growth forests and jungles. Almost all of it lies underground, so you dig it out and brush its suspicious gravel to recover pottery sherds, four armor trim templates and the Relic music disc.

How to spot Trail Ruins
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s 1133.5 82 -1414.5 0 18Trail Ruins generate in six biomes: the Taiga, the Snowy Taiga, both old growth taigas, the Old Growth Birch Forest and the Jungle. They are rare: at most one per 34 × 34 chunk region, at least 8 chunks apart.
The game builds them about fifteen blocks below the surface and then buries them in the terrain, so there is very little to see. Look for a few blocks of terracotta or Mud Bricks poking out of the ground, often the top of the central tower, or a patch of gravel and coarse dirt that does not belong in a forest. In a jungle, the canopy hides them well; walking the ground is easier than flying over it.
What's buried down there
Under the surface lies a small town: a tower at the centre, roads of gravel and dirt that lead away from it, and houses of coloured terracotta, bricks and mud bricks along the way. Some rooms still hold old workstations, such as a loom, a cartography table, a smithing table or a blast furnace, which hint at who lived there.
Nothing guards the ruins and no mob is placed inside. The danger is the dark: once you have dug out a few rooms, they are deep, unlit spaces where hostile mobs can spawn. Light them up as you go.
How to brush suspicious gravel
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s 1111.5 62 -1411.5 -104 3The loot is not in chests. It is hidden in Suspicious Gravel, which looks almost like ordinary gravel. Craft a Brush from a feather, a copper ingot and a stick, hold use on the block and wait until the item comes out. If you let go, the progress slowly goes back.
- Never mine it. Breaking suspicious gravel with a tool destroys the item inside.
- Keep the floor. It falls like normal gravel, and a fallen block breaks with its loot. Dig from the sides and from above, never underneath.
- Clear with a shovel, brush everything grey. Remove dirt and normal blocks with a shovel, then brush every gravel block you uncover: the texture difference is subtle.
Common and rare finds: where to dig
Trail Ruins use two loot tables. The common one gives emeralds, dyes, candles, stained glass panes, bricks, clay, seeds and other everyday items. The rare one holds the real prizes, all equally likely: seven pottery sherds (Burn, Danger, Friend, Heart, Heartbreak, Howl and Sheaf), the Wayfinder, Raiser, Shaper and Host armor trim templates, and the Relic music disc.
Where you dig matters. Each house and the tower can hold up to three rare blocks and up to six common ones. Roads and the very top of the tower only hold up to two common blocks each. So once you have found the tower, follow the roads to the houses and excavate them one by one.
What to do with your finds
Pottery sherds replace bricks on the sides of a Decorated Pot, so four different sherds give a pot with a different scene on every face. No other site offers as many sherd designs; others come from Desert Pyramids, Ocean Ruins and a few other places.
The four armor trims are applied at a Smithing Table. To copy one, combine it with seven Diamonds and a block of terracotta: you get two templates back. Keep the first one you find of each design.
