How to get Netherite in Minecraft: from ancient debris to full gear
Every netherite item costs 4 Ancient Debris, 4 Gold Ingots and one upgrade template, applied to a diamond item.

The Diamond is the rarest common material of the Overworld and the best one you can mine: diamond tools and armor outlast every material except netherite. You find it in diamond ore deep underground, and in the loot chests of many structures.
It is made with the Crafting Table from Block of Diamond (other recipes also exist).
A diamond pickaxe mines everything, including obsidian and ancient debris, so it is the key to the Nether portal and to netherite. Diamond armor and weapons are the strongest gear you can craft directly; to go further, you upgrade them to netherite on a smithing table instead of starting again.
Diamonds are also spent on items that do not wear out. Two go into an Enchanting Table, one into a Jukebox, and seven copy a smithing template, including the netherite upgrade you find in bastions. Nine diamonds pack into a Block of Diamond, one of the blocks a Beacon pyramid can be made of, and a single diamond pays for a beacon power.
Mining diamond ore with a Fortune pickaxe can give several diamonds per block, while Silk Touch keeps the ore for later. Some villagers, such as the armorer, buy diamonds for emeralds, and diamond is one of the colors you can give to armor trims.
