The Copper Ingot is smelted from Raw Copper, which copper ore gives in large amounts. Copper sits between stone and iron as a material for tools and armor, and it is the metal of the lightning rod, the spyglass and the brush.
It is made with the Crafting Table from Block of Copper (other recipes also exist).
What it does
Copper tools and armor are a cheap step up from stone and leather, useful early on while you look for iron. Three ingots in a column make a Lightning Rod, two with an amethyst shard make a Spyglass, and one with a feather and a stick makes the Brush of archaeology. Eight around a chest give a Copper Chest.
Nine ingots make a Block of Copper, the start of all copper building blocks: cut copper, doors, trapdoors, grates, bulbs and more, which slowly oxidize to green unless you wax them. A carved pumpkin on top of a copper block brings a Copper Golem to life, the little helper that sorts items out of copper chests.
Copper golems and drowned can drop copper ingots, and copper is one of the colors of armor trims.
