Abandoned Camp structure in Minecraft

Abandoned Camps are small campsites left in the woods: a white wool tent, a cold campfire with cushions around it, and a tree of the local biome. They come in 18 biome versions and hold simple travel gear, and some hide a buried copper chest with diamonds, potions and an explorer map to a much bigger structure.

How to find an Abandoned Camp
The game places at most one camp in each 37 × 37 chunk region of the Overworld, at least 8 chunks from the next. Each of the 18 versions belongs to one biome and uses its own wood, plants and decorations: spruce in a Taiga, cherry in a Cherry Grove, pale moss in a Pale Garden, red sand and cactus in Wooded Badlands, and so on. Every biome has ten tent designs and four campsite layouts of its own, on top of a large set of campsites shared by all versions.
Camps are small and easy to walk past. Look for a white roof between the trees and a patch of dirt path around a cold campfire. The regular chests often give you a lead: an Abandoned Camp Map that points to another camp.
What's in a camp
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s -7924.5 102 -7429.5 -150 15A camp is made of three pieces. The tent is a roof of White Wool Stairs on fence posts, with Straw Beds inside and often a barrel or a chest, sometimes a crafting table, a cauldron or a few cobwebs. Next to it lies the campsite: an unlit campfire surrounded by cushions, with another chest or barrel. The third piece is a tree that matches the biome. Some camps add an Oxidized Copper Golem Statue, sitting or standing as if someone had left it there, or an old copper lantern.
No mob is placed in a camp. The only dangers are the ordinary mobs of the biome at night and the cobwebs that slow you down.
The buried copper chest
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s 1336.5 84 723.5 45 45Some campsites hide a third container: an Oxidized Copper Chest buried, usually one or two blocks below the surface. It is often right under the barrel or chest of the campsite, under a small patch of gravel, stone or sand, or under the campfire itself. Nothing on the surface tells you for sure, so dig under every container and every odd patch of ground.
This chest has the best loot of the camp. It always gives two picks among diamonds and potions of Healing, Swiftness, Leaping or Night Vision, adds copper, iron and gold ingots, sometimes a piece of iron gear such as an Iron Spear, and almost always an explorer map. That map leads to an Ancient City, Trial Chambers, a mineshaft, a desert or jungle pyramid, warm ocean ruins or a Woodland Mansion.
Regular chests and barrels
The other containers hold what a traveller would leave behind. Chests give arrows, leather, gunpowder, a saddle, a lead, a spyglass, a bundle and copper tools or armor, including the copper spear. Barrels hold food, coal, string, candles, cushions and straw beds, plus a bundle, a wooden axe or a fishing rod. Each regular chest usually adds an Abandoned Camp Map to a camp in another biome, so one camp can lead you to the next.
Tips for looting camps
- Bring a shovel. The buried chest sits under soft blocks most of the time, and a shovel digs through dirt, gravel and sand in no time.
- Follow the maps. Camp maps chain camps together across the forest biomes, which makes a good early-game exploration route.
- Keep the explorer map. The map from the copper chest is a shortcut to big structures, useful long before you can afford one from a cartographer.
- Use the camp as a stopover. With a crafting table, containers and a campfire you can relight, a camp is a handy first shelter on a long trip.

Abandoned Camp — FAQ
Does every Abandoned Camp have a buried chest?
No. Only some campsite layouts include the buried Oxidized Copper Chest. Dig under the containers and odd patches of gravel or stone to check.
How deep is the copper chest buried?
Usually one or two blocks below the surface, usually under the campsite's barrel or chest, a patch of gravel or stone, or the campfire.
Where does an Abandoned Camp Map lead?
To another Abandoned Camp in a different biome. The explorer map from the copper chest leads to bigger structures instead, such as an Ancient City or a Woodland Mansion.
Are there mobs in Abandoned Camps?
No mob is placed in a camp. Only the usual mobs of the biome can show up, mostly at night.
How do you find an Abandoned Camp?
Use /locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp with cheats on, or look in 18 Overworld biomes, for example Bamboo Jungle, Birch Forest and Cherry Grove.
