Swamp biome in Minecraft
The Swamp is flat, soggy ground half under murky water, with oaks draped in vines, lily pads and blue orchids. It looks quiet, but it is one of the few biomes where Slimes appear on the surface at night, and its Swamp Huts are home to Witches. It is also a good source of clay and sugar cane.

Structures in the Swamp
What you find in a Swamp
The land barely rises above sea level, and shallow pools cover much of it. Swamp oaks grow right in the shallow water, with vines hanging from their leaves. The water is dark green and murky, and once you dive in you see less far than elsewhere. Lily Pads float on the pools, and you can walk on them to cross. A boat is the quickest way to get around.
The Blue Orchid grows naturally only in this biome, which makes the Swamp the place to pick light blue dye. Sugar cane lines the water more often than in most biomes, brown and red mushrooms are common, and patches of Clay cover the bottom of the pools.
Underground, swamps share a rare feature with deserts and mangrove swamps: fossils made of Bone Blocks. Near the surface they may include Coal Ore. The deepest ones carry Deepslate Diamond Ore instead.
Slimes, Witches and frogs
At night, Slimes can spawn on the surface here, not only in slime chunks underground. The chance follows the moon: highest at full moon, zero at new moon. They are your best source of Slimeballs for sticky pistons and leads.
The Swamp Hut houses a Witch, and the Bogged, a mossy skeleton, shoots poison arrows at night. Frogs here have the orange coat. Let one eat a small Magma Cube and it drops an Ochre Froglight, a bright light block.
