Sunflower Plains biome in Minecraft
Sunflower Plains are a rarer variant of the Plains, covered with large fields of sunflowers. The terrain, the animals and the scattered oaks are the same, but the flowers turn this biome into a natural compass and an easy source of yellow dye. Villages, however, never generate here.

Structures in the Sunflower Plains
A Plains biome full of sunflowers
Sunflowers grow here in dense clusters, two blocks tall, between short grass and tall grass. They are the only feature this biome adds: the other flowers of the Plains are still there, from dandelions and poppies to tulips and oxeye daisies. Oaks stay rare, and some of them carry a bee nest. Near water you find sugar cane and firefly bushes.
Horses and donkeys spawn here exactly as in the Plains, along with sheep, pigs, chickens and cows. At night, the usual zombies, skeletons, spiders and creepers come out.
Using sunflowers as a compass
In Java Edition, the flower head of every sunflower faces east. When you see the yellow face from the front, you are looking west. Before you have a compass or a map, a single field of sunflowers is enough to keep your bearings, and you can plant a few on the way home to mark the route.
An endless supply of yellow dye
Each sunflower crafts into yellow dye. You don't need to clear the whole field: use bone meal on a sunflower and it drops a copy of itself. One flower next to your base is enough for all the yellow wool, concrete and banners you want.
What you won't find here
Unlike the Plains, this biome never hosts villages or pillager outposts. If you want a village, follow the river or the edge of the field back into the normal Plains.

Sunflower Plains — FAQ
Which way do sunflowers face in Minecraft?
East, always, in Java Edition. If you can see the front of the flower, you are facing west, which makes sunflowers a handy compass early in the game.
How do you farm sunflowers?
Use bone meal on a sunflower: it drops a copy of itself without being consumed. A single plant gives you as many sunflowers, and so as much yellow dye, as you have bone meal.
Which mobs spawn in the Sunflower Plains?
Sheep, Pig, Chicken, Cow, Horse, Donkey, Spider, Skeleton, Creeper, Slime, Zombie, Enderman, Zombie Villager, Zombie Horse, Witch, Bat and Glow Squid. Bee: Lives in Bee Nests generated on some trees (2 to 3 bees per nest).
Which structures generate in the Sunflower Plains?
Mineshaft, Ruined Portal, Stronghold and Trial Chambers.
How do you find the Sunflower Plains?
With cheats on, /locate biome minecraft:sunflower_plains gives the coordinates of the nearest one. Without cheats, a seed map of your world shows where it is.
