BIOMES OVERWORLD Added in 26.2

Sulfur Caves biome in Minecraft

Sulfur Caves are a recent cave biome of the Overworld: tunnels striped with red Cinnabar and yellow Sulfur, bristling with sulfur spikes, with green-tinted pools and sulfur springs. They are the only home of the Sulfur Cube and the source of a whole new family of building blocks.

Mobs in the Sulfur Caves

Structures in the Sulfur Caves

What Sulfur Caves look like

Here the rock itself changes. Instead of plain stone, the walls are layered in bands of red Cinnabar and yellow Sulfur, with ordinary stone in between. Sulfur Spikes grow from floor and ceiling in clusters, much like pointed dripstone elsewhere. The water is a bright green-blue and a yellow-green fog fills the tunnels, so you know at once where you are.

Pools and sulfur springs

Small pools of water edged with Sulfur dot the cave floor, each with a block of Potent Sulfur at the bottom. Sulfur springs are bigger: a basin of Tuff, granite, Cinnabar and Sulfur Spikes around a pool, with Potent Sulfur sitting on a Magma Block at its center. Some springs form above the caves, linked to the cave ceiling by a column of Sulfur. A spring can burst and give off gas, so watch it for a moment before you build next to it.

Mobs and resources

The Sulfur Cube spawns naturally only in this biome. It is passive and can swallow a block, wool, planks, TNT or a Magma Block for example, and each kind of block changes how it behaves. A cube holding a Magma Block gets hot and can hurt you. You can carry one home as a Bucket of Sulfur Cube.

Be careful with the Cave Spider: here it spawns in the open like any other mob, not only from spawners, and its bite poisons you. Mind the lava lakes too. For builders, both Sulfur and Cinnabar turn into polished, brick and chiseled variants such as Polished Sulfur or Cinnabar Bricks, and nine Sulfur craft one Potent Sulfur.
