How do you get a cape in Minecraft?
Every player already owns the Pan Cape. Other official capes come from time-limited promotions, live events, stream rewards and a few contributor programs, and most of them can no longer be earned. The list below updates itself with the capes you can still get.
Read the guide →How do I equip or change my cape?
On Java Edition, choose your cape in the Skins tab of the Minecraft Launcher or on minecraft.net, then check that Options > Skin Customization > Cape is ON. On Bedrock Edition, open the Dressing Room and equip it from the Capes section. Your cape also changes the look of your elytra.
Read the guide →How do I redeem a cape code?
Go to minecraft.net/redeem, sign in with the Microsoft account you play Minecraft with and enter the code. The cape is added to both editions when the promotion allows it. Codes expire, so redeem them as soon as you get them, and check the result with the cape checker.
Read the guide →Can you get free capes from Twitch or TikTok?
During a campaign, watching any eligible Minecraft stream for a few minutes on Twitch or TikTok earns a code, which you redeem on minecraft.net/redeem. Campaigns last two to three weeks, have regional limits and their codes expire. Six capes have been given this way since 2024.
Read the guide →Why is my cape not showing?
Start with the cape checker: it shows the cape Mojang sends for your username. If none appears, the cape is not equipped on your account. If it appears there but not in game, check Skin Customization, the server's online mode, your mods and wait a few minutes for the skin cache.
Read the guide →Can other players see OptiFine capes?
Official capes come from Mojang, are free with promotions and are visible to every player. An OptiFine cape is a reward for donating to OptiFine and is only visible to players who also run OptiFine. Mod capes work the same way within their own mod. None of them can turn into an official cape.
Read the guide →What are the rarest Minecraft capes?
The rarest capes are personal capes given to a single player, such as the Millionth Customer Cape and the dB Cape. Next come capes given to a handful of people, the Classic Mojang Cape and the MINECON 2011 Cape. Four more were removed from their owners and cannot be seen anymore.
