Most official capes went to thousands or millions of players. A few were made for a single person, a team or one event, and some were taken back almost immediately. This ranking goes from the rarest to the merely rare.

Four capes were removed from their owners shortly after being given. The Bacon Cape was one of the very first personal capes; the Valentine Cape, the Oxeye Cape and the Blueprint Cape appeared briefly on a few accounts in 2023 and 2025. They now exist only as textures.
No rare cape can be bought, traded or unlocked. To see the status of every cape, open the full list of Minecraft capes, and for the ones you can still earn, read how to get a cape.
FAQ
What is the rarest Minecraft cape?
Several personal capes have exactly one owner, such as the Millionth Customer Cape. The Bacon Cape is even rarer: Notch took it back, so nobody wears it today.
Can you still get a rare cape?
No. Personal, staff and old event capes were given once and are never handed out again. Anyone selling one is running a scam.
How is rarity ranked here?
By how many accounts received the cape and whether it can still be seen in game, based on public information about each cape.
