Mushroom Fields
BIOMES OVERWORLD

Mushroom Fields biome in Minecraft

The Mushroom Fields are islands of mycelium covered with huge red and brown mushrooms, usually far out in the ocean. Their spawn list holds no monster at all, so no zombie, skeleton or creeper appears there on its own, and the only animal is the Mooshroom. It is one of the safest places for a base.

What makes the Mushroom Fields unique

The ground is Mycelium instead of grass, and there are no trees. Huge mushrooms take their place, built from Red Mushroom Blocks or Brown Mushroom Blocks on a Mushroom Stem, and small mushrooms grow everywhere in between. Mycelium slowly spreads to nearby dirt, and mushrooms placed on it grow whatever the light level. Bring wood with you: the island has none.

A biome without monsters

No hostile mob spawns naturally in this biome, day or night. The rule follows the biome, not the surface: caves that are still part of the Mushroom Fields stay free of monsters too. On top of that, pillager patrols never come here, and zombie sieges never target a village built on these islands.

That does not make the place completely safe. Spawners in dungeons, mineshafts and trial chambers still work, a different cave biome lower down follows its own rules, and mobs can still wander in from elsewhere.

Mooshrooms

Mooshrooms are the only animals here, and they are useful:

  • Stew: use a Bowl on one to get Mushroom Stew. A bucket gives milk, as with a cow.
  • Mushrooms: Shears cut off its mushrooms, and the Mooshroom becomes a regular cow.
  • Brown Mooshrooms: lightning turns a red Mooshroom brown, and back again.
  • Suspicious Stew: feed a flower to a brown Mooshroom, then use a bowl. The stew's effect depends on the flower.
