Warm Ocean biome in Minecraft
The Warm Ocean is the tropical sea of the Overworld: turquoise water over sand, and the only biome where coral reefs grow. Tropical fish and pufferfish crowd the reefs, sea pickles glow between the corals, and there is no kelp at all. This is where you collect coral in five colors for your builds.

Structures in the Warm Ocean
Coral reefs
The floor of a Warm Ocean is Sand over a layer of sandstone. On it stand reefs built from coral blocks of five types, tube, brain, bubble, fire and horn, such as the blue Tube Coral Block or the pink Brain Coral Block. Corals and coral fans grow on top and along the sides, and clusters of Sea Pickles sit between them. Seagrass fills the gaps, but kelp never grows here.
Sea pickles give off light underwater, more as a cluster grows, up to four. Smelt them and you get lime dye.
Collecting coral without killing it
Coral needs water. A coral block that touches no water turns into its dead, grey version after a short while, and so does a coral placed outside water. How you mine it matters too: without Silk Touch, a coral block only drops its dead version, and corals and fans drop nothing at all. Use a Silk Touch tool.
You can also grow coral. Use Bone Meal on a block of the sea floor in a Warm Ocean and coral and coral fans can sprout along with seagrass. Anywhere else, bone meal underwater only gives seagrass.
Life on the reef
No cod or salmon spawn here: the water belongs to Tropical Fish and Pufferfish, with squid, nautiluses and dolphins. A Zombie Nautilus that spawns in a Warm Ocean has a special coral-covered look. On the floor, look for sandstone ocean ruins and shipwrecks. Warm Oceans often border a Desert that runs right down to the water, or a Beach, and where the water gets deep they give way to the Deep Lukewarm Ocean.

Why does my coral turn grey?
Coral dies when it is not in contact with water. Place coral blocks next to water and corals or fans in water, and they stay alive.
Can you find coral outside the Warm Ocean?
Reefs only generate in the Warm Ocean. Coral mined with Silk Touch stays alive in water anywhere, but bone meal only grows new coral in this biome.
