Desert biome in Minecraft
The Desert is a hot, dry expanse of sand dunes where it never rains. Wood and food are scarce, but the biome hides some of the best early loot in the game: desert pyramids, desert villages, wells with suspicious sand and buried fossils. Most of its zombies are Husks, which do not burn in daylight.

Structures in the Desert
What you find in a Desert
The dunes are made of sand lying on a thick layer of sandstone. The only plants are cacti, dead bushes, short and tall dry grass, and sugar cane along the rare patches of water. About one cactus in four carries a cactus flower on top.
Keep an eye out for small sandstone wells. They are rare, but a few blocks of suspicious sand are buried beneath them. Clean them with a brush to get a pottery sherd, a brick, an emerald, a stick or a suspicious stew.
Fossils and pyramids
Under the dunes, fossils made of bone blocks lie buried. Those closer to the surface carry coal ore. Those deep underground, below Y -8, carry deepslate diamond ore instead: if you spot bone blocks in a deep cave, check them.
The Desert Pyramid only generates in this biome. Its treasure room is trapped, so dig in carefully. Desert villages and pillager outposts generate here too.
Surviving the heat
Food is the real problem. The only animals that spawn are Rabbits, all with a golden coat here, and the rare Camel, which can carry two players. Bring cooked food or farm in a village. At night, most zombies are Husks: they survive the sun and inflict Hunger. Half of the skeletons are replaced by the Parched, which can drop an Arrow of Weakness when you kill it. Deserts often border savannas and badlands.

Desert — FAQ
Can you find diamonds in a Desert fossil?
Yes. Fossils that generate below Y -8 carry deepslate diamond ore where upper fossils have coal ore. Look for bone blocks in deep caves under the Desert.
What can you eat in the Desert?
Rabbits are the only common food animal. Hunt them, or find a desert village and harvest its crops. Cows, sheep, pigs and chickens do not spawn naturally in this biome.
Which mobs spawn in the Desert?
Rabbit, Camel, Spider, Creeper, Slime, Husk, Skeleton, Parched, Zombie, Enderman, Witch, Zombie Villager, Bat and Glow Squid. Camel Husk: 10% of Husks that spawn naturally ride a Camel Husk, holding an Iron Spear, with a Parched behind.
Which structures generate in the Desert?
Desert Pyramid, Mineshaft, Pillager Outpost, Ruined Portal, Stronghold, Trial Chambers and Village.
How do you find the Desert?
With cheats on, /locate biome minecraft:desert gives the coordinates of the nearest one. Without cheats, a seed map of your world shows where it is.
