Camel mob in Minecraft

The Camel is the desert mount: it needs no taming, carries two players and can dash forward over gaps. Saddle it straight away, breed it with cactus, and expect nothing from it when it dies, since it drops no items.

Where to find camels

Camels spawn in the desert, but rarely in the open. Your best chance is a desert village, where they are often found walking between the houses. Lure one with a cactus in your hand: camels follow anyone holding it.

Riding without taming

Unlike horses, camels do not need to be tamed. Use a saddle on any adult camel and climb on. A second player can sit behind you, which makes the camel the only common mount for two. Camels do not take horse armor and cannot carry a chest.

Camels walk up one-block steps without jumping, and you sit high above the ground, with a clear view across the dunes. They sometimes sit down on their own; a sitting camel takes a moment to stand up before it moves.

The dash

A camel cannot jump like a horse. Instead, the jump key makes it dash: hold it to charge, then release, and the camel lunges forward. It is enough to clear a ravine or outrun a mob. After a dash, the camel needs a short rest before the next one, so plan your route. Like other mounts, it throws you off when it goes underwater, but it floats and swims at the surface with you on it.

Breeding camels

Two adult camels breed when you feed them cactus. The calf follows its parents and grows faster if you keep feeding it cactus. Since cactus grows on its own on sand, a small cactus field next to the pen is all a camel farm needs. Breeding is the only way to get more camels than the desert gives you, as they drop nothing at all when they die.

The camel husk is a different, undead mob that looks like a camel. Do not confuse the two in the dark.
