Allay mob in Minecraft
The Allay is a small blue flying spirit that collects items for you. Give it an item and it gathers every matching item lying on the ground nearby, then brings them back to you or to a note block it heard. You free one from a Pillager Outpost or a Woodland Mansion, and you can duplicate it with music and an amethyst shard.

Where to find Allay
Doesn’t spawn naturally in a biome: it comes from a structure, a spawner, a block or an event.

Allays do not spawn in the open. They are held prisoner by illagers:
- At a Pillager Outpost, in small wooden cages near the tower.
- In a Woodland Mansion, locked in the prison cells.
Clear the guards first, then break the cage or the bars. A freed Allay does not leave and never despawns. You can also lead it with a lead to bring it home.
How an Allay collects items
Use any item on an Allay and it takes it in its hands. From then on, it looks for the same item lying on the ground around it, picks it up and flies it back to you. To get your item back, use the Allay with an empty hand.
If an Allay hears a note block being played, it treats that block as its drop-off point for a while and brings the items there instead of to you. This is how collection systems work: play the note block regularly with redstone, and put a hopper next to it to catch what the Allay drops.
Uses that actually help
- Cleaning up after a farm or a fight. Hand it the item you want, such as bones, string or cobblestone, and let it gather what is lying around.
- Sorting a mob farm. One Allay per item type, each around a note block and a hopper, pulls a single kind of drop out of the pile.
- Harvesting crops broken by water or pistons, without picking them up one by one.
Dancing and duplication
Allays love music. Near a jukebox playing a disc, they start to dance. Give a dancing Allay an amethyst shard and it splits into two Allays. Each one has to wait a few minutes before it can duplicate again, so plan a small "allay nursery" with a jukebox and a stock of shards if you want many.
Good to know
An Allay heals slowly over time, takes no fall damage and, when killed, drops only the item it was carrying. It is not related to the Vex, the grey hostile spirit of the Evoker, even if both are found in mansions.

Allay — FAQ
Where does the Allay spawn?
Nowhere on its own: free one from the cages of a Pillager Outpost or the prison cells of a Woodland Mansion.
How do you duplicate an Allay?
Play a disc in a jukebox nearby and give the dancing Allay an amethyst shard. It splits into two.
How do you make an Allay bring items to a chest?
Play a note block near it: it drops the items at the note block. Place a hopper next to the note block, feeding into a chest.
What does an Allay drop?
Nothing from its loot table, but it drops the item it is holding and the items it collected.
How much health does an Allay have?
20 health points, which is 10 hearts.
