Minecraft 1.20 “Trails & Tales”

Released on 7 June 2023, Minecraft Java Edition 1.20 Trails & Tales adds archaeology with the Brush and 20 Pottery Sherds, the Sniffer and the Camel, the Cherry Grove biome and the bamboo wood set. It also brings armour trims, Hanging Signs, the Chiseled Bookshelf and signs that can be edited after placement.

Trail Ruins in Taigas, Snowy Taigas, Old Growth forests and Jungles have no chests: their loot, including Smithing Templates and the Relic music disc, comes from brushing suspicious blocks. Four sherds craft a Decorated Pot.

Sniffer and Camel

Sniffer Eggs come from Suspicious Sand in Warm Ocean Ruins and hatch in about 10 minutes on Moss. Camels breed with Cactus, step over fences and walls, and can dash.

Cherry Grove

Generates in the mountains, in places similar to Meadows. Pink particles drift down from Cherry Leaves, and Pink Petals carpet the ground with up to 4 petals per block.

The Calibrated Sculk Sensor filters vibrations by redstone signal strength, and Blocks of Amethyst relay them. Mob Heads on Note Blocks play mob sounds, including the new Piglin Head.

How do you get a Sniffer in 1.20?

Brush Suspicious Sand in Warm Ocean Ruins to find a Sniffer Egg. It hatches in about 10 minutes on Moss and about 20 minutes on other blocks.

How do you make Netherite gear in 1.20?

At the Smithing Table, combine a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template, the diamond item and a Netherite Ingot. Each Bastion Remnant treasure room holds 2 templates, and 7 Diamonds plus a block of its material copy a template into 2.

Do older data packs, resource packs and mods work in 1.20?

Data packs and resource packs now use format 15, so packs made for earlier versions may need an update. Mods need a build for 1.20, and the Update 1.20 experiment pack is no longer needed.
