Wooded Badlands biome in Minecraft

Wooded Badlands are Badlands whose high plateaus are covered with grass, coarse dirt and oak trees. You get the terracotta, red sand and extra gold of the other badlands, plus the only real wood supply of the region, Wolves with a striped coat and an abandoned camp to explore.

Structures in the Wooded Badlands

Groves on top of the mesas

Lower down, the biome looks like the other badlands: bands of terracotta, red sand, cacti and dead bushes. Climb above Y 97 and the ground changes: the tops of the mesas are covered with coarse dirt and grass, and oaks grow there in small groves. Leaf litter lies on the ground around their trunks. Like the rest of the badlands, the grass and leaves have a brownish tint.

These oaks matter: in the other badlands biomes, wood is almost impossible to find. Plant a few oak saplings near your base to keep a supply.

Gold, mineshafts and a camp

The Wooded Badlands share the extra gold ore of the Badlands, generated in the stone between Y 32 and Y 256, and their Mineshafts built from dark oak, placed between sea level and the surface. The biome also hosts its own version of the Abandoned Camp, a deserted tent left on the land.

Wildlife and dangers

This is the only badlands biome where Wolves spawn. Wolves take their look from the biome, and badlands give them a striped coat. Tame one with bones, and craft its armor from the scutes of the Armadillos that live here too. Pigs, cows and chickens appear in their warm variant, but few animals are placed when the land generates. It never rains, and a Snow Golem melts in the heat.
