Eroded Badlands biome in Minecraft
Eroded Badlands are the most dramatic version of the Badlands: tall, thin spires of striped terracotta rise from the red sand, like the hoodoos of a real desert canyon. Under the scenery, the biome works exactly like the Badlands, with the same extra gold, the same dark oak mineshafts and the same Armadillos.

Structures in the Eroded Badlands
A forest of terracotta spires
What makes this biome unique is its shape. Instead of wide mesas, the ground is cut into pillars and needles of terracotta, banded in orange, red, yellow, brown, white and light gray. Between them stretch flats of red sand with cacti, dead bushes and dry grass.
The spires make navigation tricky: every direction looks the same. Build a tall pillar topped with a torch at your camp, or note your coordinates before you wander off.
Same resources as the Badlands
The vegetation, the ores and the mobs are identical to the Badlands. That includes the extra gold ore in the stone between Y 32 and Y 256, often visible in the cave openings at the foot of the spires, and the Mineshafts made of dark oak planks, which sit between sea level and the surface.
Armadillos are the main wildlife, alongside a few sheep and farm animals in their warm variant. Since few animals spawn when the land generates, bring food. It never rains here.
Exploring the spires safely
Climbing a spire gives a great view, but the way down is a long fall. Pillar up with blocks and dig back down the same way, or carry a water bucket to break a fall. At night, mobs spawn on the sand between the pillars and can corner you in a narrow gap. A torch every few blocks along your route keeps the path clear.

Eroded Badlands — FAQ
What is the difference between Badlands and Eroded Badlands?
Only the terrain. Both biomes have the same plants, ores, mobs and structures, including the extra gold. Eroded Badlands simply replace the wide mesas with tall terracotta spires.
Can you mine the terracotta spires?
Yes, with a pickaxe. Each band gives its own color of terracotta, so a single spire is a cheap source of building blocks in several colors.
Which mobs spawn in the Eroded Badlands?
Sheep, Pig, Chicken, Cow, Armadillo, Spider, Skeleton, Creeper, Slime, Zombie, Enderman, Zombie Villager, Witch, Bat and Glow Squid.
Which structures generate in the Eroded Badlands?
Mineshaft, Ruined Portal, Stronghold and Trial Chambers.
How do you find the Eroded Badlands?
With cheats on, /locate biome minecraft:eroded_badlands gives the coordinates of the nearest one. Without cheats, a seed map of your world shows where it is.
