Creeper mob in Minecraft
The Creeper is the silent green mob that walks up to you, hisses and explodes, taking a crater out of whatever you built. It has no attack other than that blast, so the whole fight is about distance: keep it away from you and from your base, and it is one of the easiest mobs to kill.

Command
/summon minecraft:creeper ~ ~ ~How a Creeper explodes
A Creeper makes no sound while it walks. Once it is right next to you, it starts to hiss and swell. The fuse lasts about a second and a half. If you step out of its range before the end, the fuse stops and the Creeper follows you again. If you stay, it explodes, hurts everything nearby and destroys blocks, unless the mobGriefing game rule is off.
You can also light one on purpose with flint and steel. The Creeper then explodes whatever you do, so step back right away.
How to fight one
- Hit and back off. A sprinting hit knocks it back, often far enough to interrupt the fuse. Two or three good hits with a sword are usually enough.
- Use a bow when you see one coming: it never gets close enough to hiss.
- Bring a shield. Raising it as the Creeper explodes blocks most of the damage.
- Keep a cat at home. Creepers avoid cats and ocelots, so a tamed cat near the door keeps them away.
Charged Creepers
When lightning strikes near a Creeper, it becomes charged and glows with a blue aura. Its explosion is much stronger. It has one useful side: when a charged Creeper kills a zombie, a skeleton, another Creeper, a wither skeleton or a piglin with its blast, that mob drops its head. Only one head drops per explosion. This is the standard way to get a Creeper Head, which halves how far Creepers notice you when you wear it.
Gunpowder and music discs
Every Creeper can drop gunpowder, the base of TNT, firework rockets and splash potions. If a skeleton, a stray, a bogged or another skeleton-type mob lands the killing blow, the Creeper also drops a music disc. Luring Creepers in front of a skeleton is the classic way to collect the discs.

Creeper — FAQ
Can you stop a Creeper from exploding?
Yes. Move out of its range before the fuse ends and it stops hissing. Hitting it also knocks it back. Only a Creeper lit with flint and steel cannot be stopped.
Do Creepers burn in daylight?
No. Unlike zombies and skeletons, Creepers survive the day, so you can meet them in daylight too.
Where does the Creeper spawn?
In every Overworld biome except Deep Dark and Mushroom Fields.
What does a Creeper drop?
Gunpowder and Music Disc. Killed by a skeleton-type mob (skeleton, stray, bogged…): Music Disc.
How much health does a Creeper have?
20 health points, which is 10 hearts.
