Minecraft 1.14 “Village & Pillage”
Released on 23 April 2019, Minecraft Java Edition 1.14 Village & Pillage rebuilds villages with biome-based architecture and adds raids, Pillagers and Ravagers. It also brings Pandas, Foxes, the Wandering Trader, the Crossbow, new functional blocks such as the Stonecutter and the Grindstone, and new default textures.
Key takeaways
- Villages: each village takes its style from its biome, and villagers follow a daily schedule, claim a bed and a work station and restock up to twice a day.
- Raids: killing an illager that wears a banner can give you Bad Omen, and a villager rings the Bell to warn the village of a raid.
- New mobs: Pillagers, Ravagers, Pandas, Foxes and the Wandering Trader with its llamas. Cats and Ocelots are now separate mobs.
- Crossbow: slightly stronger than the Bow but less durable, with three new enchantments: Multishot, Piercing and Quick Charge.
- New textures: the game's textures were redrawn, and the old set stays available as the Programmer Art resource pack.
Headline features
The changes you will notice first, with the pages that go deeper.
Raids and the Bell
An illager captain carries a banner, and killing it can bring a Bad Omen on you. The Bell alerts villagers to a raid, and the Hero of the Village effect lowers trade prices.
Work station blocks
Each villager profession has its own work station, such as the Smoker, the Blast Furnace or the Stonecutter. The Grindstone takes over repairing items from the crafting grid.
Pandas, Foxes, Wandering Trader
Pandas have several personalities and live in the new Bamboo Jungle. Foxes come in red and snowy variants and breed with Sweet Berries, and the Wandering Trader sells random trades.
