Wandering Trader mob in Minecraft
The Wandering Trader is a travelling merchant who shows up near you from time to time with two Trader Llamas, sells blocks you cannot easily find nearby, then leaves. He sells for emeralds, buys a few everyday items, and never restocks, so take what you need before he goes.

Command
/summon minecraft:wandering_trader ~ ~ ~When the Wandering Trader appears
The game regularly tries to spawn a Wandering Trader close to a player, sometimes near a village bell. Usually only one is around, but the game does not stop a second one from arriving. He arrives with two Trader Llamas on leads and stays for a while before he disappears on his own.
He has his own little routine. At night he drinks a Potion of Invisibility to hide, and at dawn he drinks a milk bucket to become visible again. Zombies and illagers attack him, and he runs from them, so a trader that spawns at night does not always survive until morning.
What he sells
A Wandering Trader offers nine deals: five common ones, two rarer ones and two items he buys from you. He trades in emeralds and has no levels to unlock, so what you see is all he has. The most useful offers:
- Blocks from other biomes: saplings of every tree, coral blocks, sand, red sand, moss, pointed dripstone, small dripleaf, flowers and dyes.
- Blue ice and packed ice, handy for fast boat roads in the Nether.
- A name tag for a single emerald, by far the cheapest way to get one.
- Logs, eight at a time, and slime balls, nautilus shells or gunpowder.
- Now and then, a long Potion of Invisibility or an enchanted iron pickaxe.
What he buys
He also pays emeralds for a few things that are easy to make: a water bucket, a milk bucket, a water bottle, a fermented spider eye, baked potatoes or a hay bale. It is a small but easy source of emeralds early in a world.
Tips
- Check the offers quickly. His stock never refills: once an offer is used up, it stays closed.
- Keep him safe. If he appears at night, fence him in or bring him into a lit area.
- Keep the llamas if you want them: take them on your own lead and they stay behind when he leaves.

Wandering Trader — FAQ
Does the Wandering Trader restock?
No. Each offer has a limited number of uses, and once it runs out it does not come back. A new trader brings new offers.
How long does the Wandering Trader stay?
A limited time. After a while he disappears on his own, along with his llamas if they are still tied to him.
Why does the Wandering Trader turn invisible?
He drinks a Potion of Invisibility at night to hide from monsters, then a milk bucket at dawn to become visible again.
Where does the Wandering Trader spawn?
Out of nowhere, near players: the game regularly tries to spawn one close to a player, often around a village bell, leading two Trader Llamas. He leaves again after a while.
What does a Wandering Trader drop?
Nothing.
