The Iron Pickaxe is a pickaxe, the mining tool for stone, ores and metal blocks. Its material decides which ores drop something when broken. Made from iron ingots, it lasts 250 uses and mines gold, diamond, emerald and redstone ore; only obsidian and ancient debris still need diamond.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 2 × Stick and 3 × Iron Ingot.
What it does
Without a pickaxe, stone, ores, bricks and most hard blocks take ages to break and drop nothing. Each material unlocks a tier: wood and gold handle stone and coal, stone and copper add iron, copper and lapis, iron adds gold, diamond, emerald and redstone, and diamond or netherite are needed for obsidian and ancient debris.
Fortune multiplies what ores like coal, diamond, lapis and redstone drop, while Silk Touch collects the ore block itself, or keeps glass, ice and stone intact. Efficiency speeds up mining, and Unbreaking and Mending make a good pickaxe last.
A pickaxe is a poor weapon. Two worn pickaxes of the same material can be combined in a crafting grid or on an anvil to restore durability.
