How to install Forge

Install Java 25
The Forge installer is a .jar file and needs Java on your computer. Minecraft 26.3 uses Java 25; Eclipse Temurin is a free build.

Download from files.minecraftforge.net
Pick 26.3 in the version list, then click Installer under Download Recommended (or Download Latest for the newest build). The link goes through an ad page: wait a few seconds and click Skip. The file is named forge-26.3-66.1.0-installer.jar.

Run it with Install client
Close the Minecraft Launcher, double-click the file, keep Install client selected and click OK. If it opens in an archive tool instead, run java -jar forge-26.3-66.1.0-installer.jar in a terminal.

Start Forge once
Open the Minecraft Launcher, choose the forge installation in the menu next to Play and click Play. The first start creates the mods folder. Quit the game.

Add your Forge mods
Put the mod files (.jar, never unzipped) in the mods folder: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods on macOS, ~/.minecraft/mods on Linux. Each one must be made for Forge and Minecraft 26.3.

For a server, choose Install server in the same installer and pick an empty folder.
