Stone Stairs block in Minecraft
The Stone Stairs is plain smooth-faced stone shaped into steps. Its material is Stone, so it keeps that block's look and toughness. All slabs, stairs and walls work alike, as the Stone Slab, Stone Stairs and Cobblestone Wall pages explain; the Stone page covers the material.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 6 × Stone (other recipes also exist). It is mined with a pickaxe.
What it does
Stairs let you go up one block without jumping. They face away from you when placed, and clicking the underside of a block or the upper half of a face places them upside down. Neighboring stairs join automatically into inner and outer corners, which makes them the base of most roofs.
Six blocks in a staircase pattern make four stairs, while a Stonecutter turns one block into one stair. Stairs can hold water, and builders often use them upside down as eaves, window sills or table legs.
