Stone block in Minecraft
Stone is the gray rock that makes up most of the Overworld underground, above the deepslate layer. Mined with a pickaxe it drops Cobblestone; only Silk Touch keeps the stone itself, though smelting cobblestone also gives it back.
It is obtained in the Furnace from Cobblestone. It is mined with a pickaxe and drops Cobblestone.
What it does
Stone is the starting point of a whole family of building blocks: smelted again it becomes Smooth Stone, four stone make four Stone Bricks, and slabs, stairs, a button and a pressure plate are crafted from it directly. A Stonecutter, itself made from three stone and an iron ingot, cuts it into all of these without waste.
Redstone needs it too: a Redstone Repeater and a Redstone Comparator both sit on a base of three stone. In a Brewing Stand, a stone block added to an awkward potion brews the Potion of Infestation, whose effect makes silverfish burst out of the target when it is hurt.
Goats that ram into stone can drop one of their horns. In strongholds and mountains, some stone blocks are infested and release a silverfish when broken. An apprentice Mason buys stone for emeralds.
