Windswept Savanna biome in Minecraft
The Windswept Savanna is the wildest form of the Savanna: steep, broken terrain with sheer cliffs, narrow peaks and overhangs, dotted with acacias. It is hard to cross and easy to fall from, but its strange shapes make it a favorite spot for explorers, screenshots and ambitious builds.

Structures in the Windswept Savanna
What you find in a Windswept Savanna
The ground here is not just grass. Large patches of stone and coarse dirt break through the surface, giving the slopes a gray and brown look. Trees are more numerous than in the Savanna, two or three per chunk, mostly acacias with a few oaks. There is no tall grass, only short grass with poppies and dandelions.
Armadillos, Horses, donkeys and the usual farm animals spawn on the terraces, as in the other savannas. Like them, it never rains here, and a Snow Golem melts in the heat. You will find no village on these slopes, only mineshafts, ruined portals and trial chambers underground.
Crossing without falling
The main danger is the terrain itself. A misstep on a peak can mean a long drop. A few habits help:
- Carry a water bucket. Placing water just before you land cancels the fall damage.
- Scout from a high point with a spyglass before choosing a path.
- Build stairs or a ladder instead of jumping down a cliff.
- At night, mobs spawn on ledges you can't see. Light up the path you take often.
Building on the cliffs
The peaks are perfect for a cliffside house or a bridge between two summits. Coarse dirt is a good path block: grass never spreads onto it, and a hoe turns it into normal dirt. Acacia wood, stone and coarse dirt are all on site, so you can build without hauling materials.
