The Hoglin is the big tusked beast of Crimson Forests, and the main source of meat in the Nether. It is hostile and launches you into the air with its tusks, but it is afraid of warped fungus, which gives you a simple way to keep it away.

A Hoglin charges as soon as it sees you and swings its head upward, sending you flying. That launch is the real danger. In the Nether, landing in lava or falling off a ledge hurts far more than the hit itself. Fight on flat, solid ground, and block its charges with a shield. Hoglins live in the Crimson Forest and in the stables of Bastion Remnants.
With twice the health of a zombie, a Hoglin takes several hits to bring down. It is not undead, so Smite does nothing extra: a sword with Sharpness is the better choice.
What Hoglins are afraid of
Hoglins avoid warped fungus, Nether portals and respawn anchors. A few warped fungi placed or potted around your portal or your base in a Crimson Forest keep them at a distance. You also never meet them in Warped Forests.
They are not the top predator either: groups of piglins hunt them. A fight between piglins and hoglins is a good moment to slip past both.
Breeding and food
Hoglins breed with crimson fungus. Each adult drops 2 to 4 raw porkchops and sometimes leather, with more under Looting. If it dies while on fire, or if you kill it with a Fire Aspect weapon, the meat drops already cooked. A breeding pen in a Crimson Forest is an easy food and leather farm, as long as it stays in the Nether.
Hoglins outside the Nether
Bring a Hoglin through a portal into the Overworld or the End and it starts shaking. After about 15 seconds it turns into a Zoglin: undead, impossible to breed and hostile to almost everything. There is no way to reverse it, so never move your breeding pair out of the Nether.
