Husk mob in Minecraft

The Husk is the desert's zombie. It does not burn in sunlight, so it keeps coming after sunrise, and its hits give you Hunger. Otherwise it fights like a regular zombie, with the same weaknesses.

A zombie that survives the day

In the Desert, Husks take the place of most Zombies. They spawn in the dark like any monster, but the morning sun does not burn them. A desert that looks safe at noon can still hold the Husks of the night before, hidden behind dunes or around a village.

Hunger: what the hits do

Each hit from a Husk can give you Hunger. Your food bar then drains much faster, which matters in a desert where food is scarce. The effect ends on its own after a while. A Milk Bucket removes it at once, but drinking it in the middle of a fight costs you time: kill the Husks first, then eat.

From Husk to Zombie to Drowned

A Husk that stays underwater long enough turns into a regular Zombie. If that Zombie stays under too, it becomes a Drowned. Leading Husks into an oasis or a river is not a way to get rid of them, only to change them.

Husks and villagers

Husks hunt villagers just like Zombies. A villager they kill can come back as a Zombie Villager, depending on the difficulty. In a desert village, the danger does not end at sunrise, so light the streets and close the doors.

Husks on Camel Husks

A Husk can ride a Camel Husk. Kill a Husk while it rides one and it can also drop a Rabbit's Foot. That item is what Camel Husks eat, and it brews the Potion of Leaping.

How to fight Husks

  • Use Smite. As an undead mob, a Husk takes extra damage from it.
  • Do not let them group up. They have the zombie behaviors: on Hard they break wooden doors and a hit Husk can call others.
  • Watch what they carry. Like Zombies, Husks pick up gear lying around and use it.

Their main drop is rotten flesh. Eating it can give you Hunger too, so keep it for wolves or for trading.

Husk — FAQ

Do Husks burn in daylight?

No. Husks survive the sun, which is why you still meet them in the desert during the day.

How do you get rid of Hunger from a Husk?

Wait for it to wear off, or drink a Milk Bucket. Eating afterwards refills the food bar it drained.

Can a Husk turn into a Zombie?

Yes. A Husk that stays underwater long enough converts into a Zombie, and that Zombie can then become a Drowned.

Where does the Husk spawn?

In Desert.

What does a Husk drop?

Rotten Flesh, Rabbit's Foot, Iron Ingot, Carrot and Potato. Only when riding a camel husk: Rabbit's Foot. Only when killed by a player: Iron Ingot, Carrot and Potato. It also drops the weapon or armor it spawned with (8.5% chance per piece) and any items it picked up off the ground.
