Potion of Leaping how to brew it in Minecraft

A Potion of Leaping gives you Jump Boost: every jump goes higher, and falls hurt a little less. It is a travel and parkour potion, great for crossing mountains and ravines, less great in tight tunnels.

Brew it step by step

Put Blaze Powder in the fuel slot and up to 3 bottles at the bottom, then add each ingredient at the top.

When Leaping helps

Higher jumps mean fewer blocks to place and fewer detours. With Leaping you hop over fences and walls, climb rough mountain terrain without building stairs, and get out of a shallow pit without digging. Level II goes higher still, at the cost of a shorter duration.

Combined with a Potion of Swiftness, sprint-jumping across open land covers ground very quickly. It is a cheap way to travel before you own an Elytra.

Pitfalls

  • Every jump is a big jump. You cannot choose a small hop. Near lava, cliffs or the void, a reflex jump can take you further than you planned.
  • Fall damage still exists. The effect reduces it a little, but the higher arcs mean longer falls. Pair it with Feather Falling boots, or keep a Potion of Slow Falling for big drops.
  • Low ceilings get in the way. In a two-block mine tunnel you constantly hit your head, which slows you down instead of speeding you up.

Getting Rabbit's Feet

The Rabbit's Foot is the hard part. Rabbits drop it only now and then when you kill them, and Looting improves your odds. In deserts, a Husk riding a Camel Husk can drop one too. Cleric villagers buy Rabbit's Feet, so do not trade away the ones you need for brewing.

A second use: Slowness

A Fermented Spider Eye turns Leaping into a Potion of Slowness, exactly like Swiftness does. If you have Rabbit's Feet but no sugar to spare, it is another way to get there.

Potion of Leaping — FAQ

Can you jump over a fence with Jump Boost?

Yes. Leaping raises each jump enough to clear fences and walls, which normal jumps cannot do.

Does Leaping remove fall damage?

No. It only reduces it slightly. For a long drop, Slow Falling or Feather Falling boots are what keep you alive.

Where do you get a Rabbit's Foot?

From killing rabbits, which drop it now and then (Looting helps), or from husks riding camel husks in deserts.

How do you make a Potion of Leaping?

Add Rabbit's Foot to Awkward Potion in a brewing stand.

How long does a Potion of Leaping last?

3:00 as a normal potion, 8:00 with Redstone.
