Beacon in Minecraft: build the pyramid and pick the right power
A beacon gives you a status effect within a radius of 20 to 50 blocks, as long as it sits on a pyramid of mineral blocks and its beam reaches the sky.

The Beacon is a block that, placed on a pyramid of mineral blocks, gives status effects such as Speed or Haste to every player around it. It shines a beam of light into the sky and is one of the most valuable blocks you can craft, since it needs a Nether Star.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 5 × Glass, 3 × Obsidian and Nether Star. It gives off light level 15.
A Beacon only works when nothing blocks its line to the sky, and it must stand on a pyramid made of Blocks of Iron, gold, emeralds, diamonds or netherite. The type of block does not matter and you can mix them. A pyramid can have one to four levels: each level unlocks more effects and extends the range, from 20 blocks with one level to 50 blocks with four.
To choose a power, open the Beacon and pay it with a single Emerald, Diamond, Iron Ingot, Gold Ingot or Netherite Ingot. Stained glass placed above the Beacon tints its beam, which helps you find a base from far away.
5 × Glass + Nether Star + 3 × Obsidian → Beacon
