Potion of the Turtle Master (Minecraft)
POTION BENEFICIAL Present since 1.14 or earlier

Potion of the Turtle Master how to brew it in Minecraft

The Potion of the Turtle Master gives two effects at once: Resistance III, which cuts incoming damage by 60%, and Slowness IV, which slows you to a crawl. It is a short, expensive potion for moments when you need to stand your ground and take hits, not move.

Brew it step by step

Put Blaze Powder in the fuel slot and up to 3 bottles at the bottom, then add each ingredient at the top.

When to drink it

Think of it as a shield wall in a bottle. It shines when the danger comes to you and running is not an option:

  • Holding a chokepoint during a raid, while waves of illagers come through one door.
  • Burst moments of a boss fight, such as the Wither closing in, when you plan to trade blows rather than dodge.
  • PvP duels where your opponent has to come to you.

The level II version raises Resistance to IV (80% less damage) but Slowness to VI, so you can hardly move at all. The long version keeps the normal levels and simply lasts twice as long.

Combinations that work

Since you will be standing still, bring the damage and the healing with you: a Potion of Strength to hit back harder, a Potion of Regeneration or a Golden Apple to heal through the damage you still take. A Potion of Swiftness partly offsets the Slowness if you need a little mobility.

Pitfalls

  • You cannot escape. If the fight turns, you are stuck in place until the effect ends. A Milk Bucket removes both effects at once, which can save you.
  • Ranged enemies love it. Skeletons and ghasts keep shooting while you crawl toward them.
  • Splash versions hit allies too. Throwing it near a friend roots them as well.

The cost: a Turtle Shell

Each brew uses a whole Turtle Shell, made from five Turtle Scutes. Scutes drop when a baby Turtle grows up, so you need a turtle farm on a beach: breed adults, protect the Turtle Eggs from zombies and wait. One shell still makes three potions, so always fill all three bottles.

Potion of the Turtle Master — FAQ

Is the Potion of the Turtle Master worth it?

For short, intense fights where you stay in place, yes: 60% less damage is huge. For normal exploration, the Slowness makes it more of a burden than a help.

How do you get Turtle Scutes?

Baby turtles drop one Turtle Scute when they grow into adults. Breed turtles on a beach with Seagrass and protect their eggs.

Can you cancel the Slowness from Turtle Master?

Only by removing both effects with a Milk Bucket. A Potion of Swiftness partly offsets the slowdown without removing the protection.

How do you make a Potion of the Turtle Master?

Add Turtle Shell to Awkward Potion in a brewing stand.

How long does a Potion of the Turtle Master last?

0:20 as a normal potion, 0:40 with Redstone.
