Potion of Night Vision how to brew it in Minecraft
A Potion of Night Vision makes everything look fully lit: caves, the night sky and the sea floor. It is one of the cheapest useful potions to brew, and it is also the base you need for Invisibility.
Brew it step by step
Put Blaze Powder in the fuel slot and up to 3 bottles at the bottom, then add each ingredient at the top.

What Night Vision does
Lets you see everything as if it were fully lit, even underwater.

Night Vision changes what you see, not the world itself. That makes it ideal for scanning a huge cave for ores and openings before you commit to lighting it, or for building at night without losing track of your blocks.
Underwater it is close to essential. Torches cannot be placed there, and the deep sea fades into dark blue after a few blocks. With the effect, ocean ruins, shipwrecks and an Ocean Monument become readable from a distance.
What to combine it with
- Potion of Water Breathing: the classic pair for any long dive. Add Depth Strider on your boots and Aqua Affinity on your helmet to move and mine at a normal pace.
- Potion of Invisibility: brewed from this potion with a Fermented Spider Eye. Add Redstone Dust first: an extended Night Vision turns into an extended Invisibility, so you never brew the long version twice.
Pitfalls
- Mobs still spawn. The light level does not change, so a cave that looks bright is still full of dark spots where monsters appear. Keep placing torches where you want to be safe.
- The screen flickers near the end. When the view starts blinking, the effect is about to run out: drink the next bottle before you are in the dark again, especially underwater.
- Glowstone does nothing. There is no level II, only the longer version.
Getting Golden Carrots
A Golden Carrot is a Carrot surrounded by eight Gold Nuggets. Master farmer villagers also sell them. Golden Carrots are excellent food as well, so a carrot farm and a gold supply cover both needs.

Potion of Night Vision — FAQ
Does Night Vision work underwater?
Yes. It is one of its best uses: the water becomes clear and you can see the sea floor and underwater structures from much further away.
Does Night Vision stop mobs from spawning?
No. It only changes your view. The real light level stays the same, so hostile mobs keep spawning in dark areas.
How do you turn Night Vision into Invisibility?
Add a Fermented Spider Eye to a Potion of Night Vision. If the Night Vision was extended with Redstone, the Invisibility is extended too.
How do you make a Potion of Night Vision?
Add Golden Carrot to Awkward Potion in a brewing stand.
How long does a Potion of Night Vision last?
3:00 as a normal potion, 8:00 with Redstone.
