Potion of Fire Resistance how to brew it in Minecraft

A Potion of Fire Resistance makes you immune to fire, lava, Magma Blocks and blaze fireballs for as long as it lasts. It is the potion to carry every time you go to the Nether, and the one that turns a fall into lava into a simple swim.

Brew it step by step

Put Blaze Powder in the fuel slot and up to 3 bottles at the bottom, then add each ingredient at the top.

Why it is the Nether potion

Most deaths in the Nether come from lava: a misplaced step, a ghast knocking you off a bridge, a pocket opened while mining. With Fire Resistance active, you simply swim back out. It also cancels the main threat of the Blaze, whose fireballs deal fire damage, which makes a Nether Fortress far easier to clear.

The long version is the one to bring. Mining for Ancient Debris deep in the Nether means digging next to lava for minutes at a time, and a fight in a Bastion Remnant can drag on.

What it does not protect against

Explosions. A Ghast fireball still hurts through its blast, and so does a creeper.
Your items. Anything you drop into lava still burns. If you die in lava, your inventory is gone.
The end of the timer. You can stay on fire after leaving lava. The moment the effect ends, the burning starts to hurt. Keep a Water Bucket to put yourself out, or drink a new bottle before the timer runs out.

Good companions

Fire Protection on your armor is a solid backup: it shortens burning once the potion is over. A splash version is useful to protect a friend or a pet, and a Strider remains the safest way to cross a wide lava lake without relying on a timer.

Getting Magma Cream

Magma Cubes drop Magma Cream, and they are common in Basalt Deltas. You can also craft it from Blaze Powder and a Slimeball, which is handy if you run a slime farm.
