Zombified Piglin mob in Minecraft

The Zombified Piglin is one of the most common mobs of the Nether, and it is harmless as long as you leave it alone. Hit one, and every Zombified Piglin around joins in. That group anger is the whole story of this mob: avoid it while exploring, or use it on purpose in a gold farm.

Why the whole group attacks

A Zombified Piglin ignores you, with or without gold armor. As soon as you hurt one, it alerts the others nearby, and they all chase you with their golden swords. A stray arrow or a sweep attack aimed at something else counts too. The anger wears off after a while if you get away, but in a crowded area it can follow you a long way.

On the other hand, they do not share the piglins' love of gold. Opening chests or mining gold ore near them changes nothing. Watch out for the babies: they are smaller and faster than the adults, and harder to hit in a crowd.

Where they come from

  • They spawn in groups in the Nether Wastes and the Crimson Forest, and inside Nether Fortresses.
  • A Nether portal in the Overworld can spawn them now and then, so do not be surprised to find one next to your portal.
  • A pig struck by lightning turns into one.
  • A piglin or a piglin brute that spends about 15 seconds in the Overworld or the End becomes one.

How to fight them

  • Do not start a fight you are not ready for. Check what is around before you attack anything near a group.
  • Use Smite. They are undead, so Smite deals extra damage to them.
  • Forget fire. They are immune to it, so Fire Aspect and Flame are wasted.
  • Back into a corridor. In a one-block-wide passage, only one of them can reach you at a time.

Gold and experience farms

A Zombified Piglin drops rotten flesh, gold nuggets and, when a player kills it, sometimes a gold ingot. Looting improves all three. Because they spawn in such numbers, farms built around them are the classic way to get gold and experience in bulk. The gold then pays for bartering with piglins, which closes the loop nicely.

Zombified Piglin — FAQ

Why are Zombified Piglins attacking me?

You, or one of your arrows or sweep attacks, hurt one of them. The whole group nearby then turns hostile until the anger wears off.

Do Zombified Piglins burn in daylight?

No. Unlike zombies, they do not burn in the sun, and they are immune to fire in general.

Can you turn a Zombified Piglin back into a piglin?

No. There is no cure, unlike for zombie villagers.

Where does the Zombified Piglin spawn?

In Nether Wastes and Crimson Forest.

What does a Zombified Piglin drop?

Rotten Flesh, Gold Nugget and Gold Ingot. Only when killed by a player: Gold Ingot. It also drops the weapon or armor it spawned with (8.5% chance per piece) and any items it picked up off the ground.
