Goat mob in Minecraft
The Goat is a mountain climber that leaps high and rams anything in its way, including you, sometimes right off a cliff. It gives milk, breeds with wheat and is the main source of goat horns, which it loses when it charges into the right blocks.

Command
/summon minecraft:goat ~ ~ ~Where goats live
Goats spawn high up, on Snowy Slopes, Jagged Peaks and Frozen Peaks. They jump from ledge to ledge and take less fall damage than most mobs, so they are comfortable in places where you are not.
Why goats ram you
Every now and then, a goat lowers its head, stares at a target and charges. The hit knocks you back a long way, and on a mountain that often means a fall. Screaming goats, a rare kind that makes loud screaming noises, charge far more often. To stay safe up there:
- Do not stand with your back to a drop when a goat is staring at you.
- Step aside when it lowers its head: the charge goes in a straight line.
- Build or mine with a wall between you and the herd.
How to get goat horns
When a goat charges and slams into a solid block instead of its target, it can break off a horn, which drops as a goat horn. Only some blocks do this: stone, packed ice, logs from Overworld trees, and iron, coal, copper or emerald ore. A goat has two horns, so it can drop two at most.
The trick is to stand in front of one of these blocks, wait for the charge and step aside at the last moment. The sound of the horn depends on the goat: regular goats give Ponder, Sing, Seek or Feel, screaming goats give Admire, Call, Yearn or Dream. Chests in a pillager outpost can also hold a horn, but only with one of the regular sounds.
Milk and breeding
Use a bucket on a goat to fill a milk bucket. Drinking it clears all your status effects, good and bad, which makes it a handy cure for poison or the effects of a witch's potion. Goats breed with wheat. A small pen at your base, with a stone wall at one end, is the safest way to collect horns without climbing a mountain each time.
