Jagged Peaks biome in Minecraft
Jagged Peaks are sharp, snowy summits that cut the skyline into spikes. There are no trees and no animals other than goats, but the climb rewards you with wide views over the world and emerald ore hidden in the stone. They are also a striking spot for a lookout or a base above the clouds.

Structures in the Jagged Peaks
What Jagged Peaks look like
The tops are covered with snow blocks, and the steep faces show bare stone, which also lies right under the snow. Unlike Frozen Peaks, they have no ice patches. Unlike Snowy Slopes or the Grove, no powder snow forms in the surface, so the snow holds your weight. Goats are the only animals that spawn here, and fire burns out faster than in most biomes.
Mining in the peaks
Mountain biomes are among the few places where emerald ore generates. It is most common well above sea level, so the inside of a tall peak is a good place to tunnel. Each ore drops a single emerald, more with Fortune, or the ore block itself with Silk Touch.
The stone also hides infested stone. It looks like normal stone, but a silverfish jumps out when you break it, and hitting one can wake others nearby. Mine carefully and keep a sword ready.
Surviving on the summits
- Goats ram you off ledges: keep your back to a wall or fight them on flat ground.
- Small lava springs can leak out of the snow on these slopes.
- Carry a water bucket and spare blocks, and add Feather Falling to your boots: one misstep on a steep face means a long fall.
- Pillager outposts and mountain ruined portals can generate on the peaks.
