Grove biome in Minecraft

The Grove is a snowy spruce forest on the lower slopes of mountains, just below the peaks. It looks peaceful but hides powder snow you can sink into, and it is the only home of the snowy wolf. Under the snow, the mountain stone holds emerald ore and blocks infested with silverfish.

Structures in the Grove

What a Grove looks like

The ground is made of snow blocks rather than grass, and spruces of both shapes, cone and tall thin trunk, grow straight out of the snow. There are no flowers and no berries. In places the surface is powder snow instead of solid snow, and the two look almost the same. Groves sit on mountainsides, often next to Snowy Slopes and the peaks above them.

Powder snow and other dangers

Step on powder snow and you sink into it. Stay inside too long and you freeze, taking damage until you get out. Wear leather boots to walk on top of it, and any piece of leather armor stops the freezing. You can also scoop it up with a bucket to get a Powder Snow Bucket and set traps of your own.

Lava can pour out of the snow too: small lava springs generate in snow blocks and powder snow, here and on the mountains above. At night, the usual zombies, skeletons and creepers spawn, and pillager outposts can generate in the Grove.

Animals and ores

The Grove is the only biome where the snowy wolf variant spawns, alone and rarely. Snow foxes and white rabbits are much more common. Dig into the mountain and you can find emerald ore, which only generates in mountain and windswept biomes, and infested stone that releases a silverfish when you mine it.

Grove — FAQ

Where do snowy wolves spawn?

Only in the Grove. They spawn alone and rarely, so you may have to explore several groves before you can tame one with bones.

How do you avoid sinking in powder snow?

Wear leather boots: they let you walk on powder snow. If you fall in, any piece of leather armor stops you from freezing while you climb out.

Which mobs spawn in the Grove?

Rabbit, Fox, Wolf, Spider, Skeleton, Creeper, Slime, Zombie, Enderman, Zombie Villager, Witch, Bat and Glow Squid.

Which structures generate in the Grove?

Mineshaft, Pillager Outpost, Ruined Portal, Stronghold and Trial Chambers.

How do you find the Grove?

With cheats on, /locate biome minecraft:grove gives the coordinates of the nearest one. Without cheats, a seed map of your world shows where it is.
