Gravel block in Minecraft
Gravel is a loose gray block that falls like sand when nothing holds it up. Mined with a shovel, it sometimes gives Flint instead of itself, the ingredient of arrows and flint and steel.
It is mined with a shovel and drops Flint.
What it does
Each gravel block you break has a 10 percent chance to drop flint; Fortune raises that chance, and with Fortune III it always does. Silk Touch always keeps the gravel. Piling gravel up and breaking it again is the usual way to collect flint for arrows.
Because it falls, gravel is dangerous in caves: a pocket of it can drop on you when you mine the block below. The other way round, it makes quick pillars and fills water holes fast.
Gravel is also half of the concrete powder recipe: four of it with four sand and one dye give eight blocks. Two gravel with two dirt make four blocks of Coarse Dirt, on which grass does not spread. A novice Fletcher trades flint for gravel, and the speckled Suspicious Gravel of ruins hides relics for your brush.
