How to build a Nether portal in Minecraft (and link two portals)
A Nether portal is an upright Obsidian frame, at least 4 blocks wide and 5 tall, lit with fire.

The Nether Portal is the swirling purple gateway between the Overworld and the Nether.
It gives off light level 11. It cannot be broken in Survival.
Build a rectangle of Obsidian at least four wide and five tall then set fire to the inner space, for example with Flint and Steel. Standing in it for a few seconds takes you across; one block in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld, which makes it a fast travel network. The portal block itself cannot be collected.
