Desert Pyramid structure in Minecraft

Desert Pyramids are sandstone temples that generate only in the Desert. Under the main hall, four chests wait in a hidden room rigged with TNT, and a buried cellar full of suspicious sand rewards anyone who brings a Brush.

How to spot a Desert Pyramid
The game places at most one Desert Pyramid in each 32 × 32 chunk region, never closer than 8 chunks to the next, and only in the Desert biome. From a distance, look for two square towers on either side of an entrance, built of sandstone with orange stripes. The pyramid often sits slightly sunk into the ground, so the towers are usually the first thing you see over a dune.
Without cheats, the seed map above is the easiest tool. In survival, the secret chest of an Abandoned Camp can also hold a Desert Pyramid Map. Travel by day if you can: at night the desert fills with Husks, and they do not burn in sunlight.
The TNT trap under the main hall
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s -3893.5 72.4 -5045.5 0 90In the middle of the ground floor, a pattern of orange terracotta surrounds a single block of blue terracotta. That block covers a deep shaft that drops straight into the treasure room. At the bottom, a stone pressure plate sits in the middle of the floor, and nine blocks of TNT are buried right under it. Land on the plate and the whole room blows up, chests and loot included.
You do not even have to trigger it yourself. A stone pressure plate reacts to any mob, so a Husk or a spider that falls down the shaft can set it off while you are still upstairs.
How to loot the four chests safely
- Do not jump down the shaft. Dig a staircase next to it instead, then break into the room from the side.
- Remove the pressure plate first. Break it before you take a single step in the room. Without it, the TNT cannot go off.
- Take the TNT. Once the plate is gone, the nine blocks are free explosives: just mine them.
- Bring light. The room is pitch dark. A torch stops mobs from spawning around you while you loot.
- Check all four sides. Each wall has an alcove with a chest.
Expect plenty of bones, rotten flesh and gunpowder, but the chests can also hold diamonds, emeralds, enchanted books, golden apples, horse armor, the rare Enchanted Golden Apple and the Dune Armor Trim smithing template.
The hidden cellar and its suspicious sand
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s -3891.5 72 -5042.5 -90 18The treasure room is not the only secret. Toward the back of the pyramid, on one side, a small cellar is buried just under the ground floor. Its staircase is choked with sand and its ceiling has partly caved in, so the clue is sand in the floor where you would expect sandstone. The cellar itself is packed with sand, and a handful of those blocks are suspicious sand.
Use a Brush to dust suspicious sand. Each block gives one item from the pyramid's archaeology table, where eight results are equally likely: four pottery sherds (Archer, Miner, Prize and Skull), a diamond, an emerald, TNT or gunpowder. Mining the block with a tool gives nothing. Suspicious sand also falls like normal sand, so clear the plain sand around it with care: a block that drops is lost.
Four sherds, or any mix of sherds and bricks, craft a Decorated Pot that shows their patterns.
After the raid
Keep the Brush: it also unlocks the buried finds of Trail Ruins and Ocean Ruins. The empty pyramid makes a handy desert outpost. Light up the inside and the thick walls keep it safe at night, while the towers give you a view over the dunes.

Desert Pyramid — FAQ
How do you get past the TNT trap in a Desert Pyramid?
Dig down next to the shaft instead of dropping in, enter the treasure room from the side and break the stone pressure plate before you step anywhere. Without the plate, the nine TNT blocks cannot go off and you can mine them.
How many chests are in a Desert Pyramid?
Four, one in each alcove of the hidden room under the main hall. The buried cellar has no chest, only sand and suspicious sand.
Do you need a Brush in a Desert Pyramid?
Not for the chests. You need one for the suspicious sand in the hidden cellar: mining it destroys the block and the item inside.
Can a mob set off the Desert Pyramid trap?
Yes. The stone pressure plate reacts to mobs as well as players, so a Husk falling down the shaft can blow up the room before you get there.
How do you find a Desert Pyramid?
Use /locate structure minecraft:desert_pyramid with cheats on, or look in Desert.
