String item in Minecraft
String is dropped by Spiders and cave spiders, and breaking a Cobweb with anything but shears gives one too. It strings bows, crossbows and fishing rods, and placed on the ground it becomes the tripwire of traps.
It cannot be crafted; it can be found in chests.
What it does
Most ranged gear needs string: three for a Bow, two for a Crossbow and two for a Fishing Rod. Five strings make two Leads, two go into a Loom, one into a Candle with a honeycomb and one into a Bundle with leather. A string with six bamboo makes six Scaffolding blocks.
Four strings in a square craft a block of white wool, an easy way to get wool from a spider farm instead of sheep.
Placed between two Tripwire Hooks, string becomes a tripwire: anything that walks through it makes the hooks send a redstone signal, the classic trigger of jungle temple traps. Cut it with shears and the hooks stay silent. Cats sometimes bring string as a morning gift, and novice fishermen buy it for emeralds.
