Sandstone block in Minecraft
Sandstone is the plain block, crafted from four Sand and found under the sand of deserts and beaches. Sandstone is the desert's building stone, in a yellow and a red version.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 4 × Sand. It is mined with a pickaxe.
What it does
Sand turns into sandstone four blocks at a time, and every variant comes from the plain block: cut and chiseled sandstone by crafting or on a Stonecutter, smooth sandstone in a furnace. Plain and smooth sandstone have slabs and stairs, cut sandstone has a slab, and plain sandstone also has a wall.
Sandstone is soft: it breaks quickly with any pickaxe but resists explosions less than stone. Desert pyramids, wells and villages are built from it, which makes it the natural choice for warm, sandy builds.
