The Mooshroom is the red or brown cow of the mushroom fields. It does everything a cow does, plus a bowl gives you mushroom stew, shears give you mushrooms, and a brown one can give suspicious stew.

Where to find Mooshrooms

Mooshrooms spawn in one biome only, the mushroom fields, usually an island far out in the ocean. That biome has no natural hostile spawns on the surface, which makes it one of the safest places to build. If you would rather farm at home, bring back two Mooshrooms on leads or in a boat and breed them there.

How to breed them

Mooshrooms eat the same food as cows: hold wheat to make them follow you, then feed two adults to get a calf. Two red parents almost always give a red calf; a brown one from red parents is very rare.

Stew, milk and mushrooms

Bowl: use a bowl on an adult to get a mushroom stew, as often as you like. A pen of Mooshrooms is an endless food source that needs nothing but bowls.
Bucket: an empty bucket gives milk, exactly like a cow.
Shears: shears drop five mushrooms of the Mooshroom's color, either red or brown. The animal turns into a normal cow for good, so only shear the ones you can spare.

When killed, a Mooshroom drops leather and raw beef like any cow.

Brown Mooshrooms and suspicious stew

Lightning that strikes a Mooshroom turns a red one brown and a brown one red. That is the reliable way to get a brown one: wait for a thunderstorm, or use a trident enchanted with Channeling.

A brown Mooshroom has one extra trick. Feed it a flower, then use a bowl on it: you get a suspicious stew with the effect that flower gives in a crafted stew. A dandelion, for example, gives Saturation. You need a new flower for each stew.
