Frog mob in Minecraft
The Frog is a swamp mob that hops between lily pads and catches small slimes and magma cubes with its tongue. Its main use is light: a frog that eats a small magma cube leaves a froglight, and the color depends on the frog's variant.

Command
/summon minecraft:frog ~ ~ ~Where frogs live
Frogs spawn in the Swamp and the Mangrove Swamp. They swim well, breathe underwater and like to jump onto lily pads and big dripleaf. Their color tells you about the climate they grew up in: the orange temperate frog is the default, the pale warm frog comes from warm places such as the Mangrove Swamp, and the green cold frog from snowy biomes.
What frogs eat
Frogs hunt small Slimes and small Magma Cubes, grabbing them with their tongue and swallowing them in one go. A small slime eaten this way drops a slimeball. A small magma cube drops a froglight instead of magma cream, and which one depends on the frog:
- a temperate frog gives an ochre froglight;
- a warm frog gives a pearlescent froglight;
- a cold frog gives a verdant froglight.
Froglights are full light blocks as bright as glowstone, and their three soft colors make them popular for builds.
How to farm froglights
Magma cubes live in the Nether, so either the frogs travel or the cubes do. Taking frogs through a portal is usually easier. Lead them on a lead, set them up in a fenced area near Basalt Deltas, where magma cubes are common, and let them work. Large magma cubes split into smaller ones when you hit them, and the frogs finish the job. For all three colors, bring one frog of each variant.
Breeding frogs
Feed two frogs a slimeball each. One of them then lays frogspawn on the surface of nearby water, which hatches into tadpoles. Frogspawn cannot be picked up, so pick the pond carefully. Each tadpole becomes a frog whose variant depends on the biome where it grows up, not on its parents: raise tadpoles in a snowy biome and you get cold frogs.
